Internationally acclaimed violinist Bojan Čičić opens the season in a program bursting with the imagination and brilliance of the Baroque. The concert features Jean-Féry Rebel’s Les Élémens, an astonishing musical depiction of creation itself, where chaos gives way to earth, air, fire, and water in one of the eighteenth century’s most imaginative orchestral works. Čičić is joined by concertmaster Cece Belcher for Christoph Graupner’s dazzling Concerto for Two Violins in G Minor, gwv 334, a work filled with brilliant dialogue and elegance. Completing the program, soprano Linh Kauffman and oboist Basil Reeve bring operatic flair to sparkling arias by Handel’s celebrated rival, Nicola Porpora, showcasing the expressive lyricism and vocal brilliance that made him one of Europe’s most admired composers.
